Harga makanan dan minuman di restoran India Muslim atau mamak dijangka naik sehingga 10 peratus tahun depan.
Presiden Persatuan Pengusaha Restoran Muslim Malaysia (Presma), Datuk Jawahar Ali Taib Khan, berkata kenaikan harga itu tidak dapat dielakkan bagi menampung kenaikan harga barang yang meningkat sehingga 30 peratus.
Kenaikan harga tersebut akan melibatkan makanan dan minuman seperti roti canai, thosai, capati, mee goreng mamak, teh tarik dan milo.
Menurut beliau, harga setiap makanan dan minuman di kira-kira 9,000 restoran mamak di seluruh negara dijangka naik sehingga 20 sen.
“Kami telah dapat mengekalkan harga selama lebih tiga tahun. Presma mungkin satu-satunya persatuan yang meminta ahlinya tidak menaikkan harga mereka sehingga 30 Disember.
“Tetapi yang pasti kami akan mengenakan kenaikan menjelang tahun depan, pada kadar yang munasabah. Kami akan minimumkan kenaikan kami,” katanya seperti dilaporkan Malaysiakini.
Jawahar menambah, langkah itu bukan untuk mencari keuntungan berlebihan, sebaliknya untuk menampung peningkatan kos yang begitu ketara.
“Walaupun kami mengenakan bayaran RM2.50 untuk sekeping roti canai, kami tidak dapat untung banyak kerana kami menyediakan kuah atau kari dhal bersamanya,” katanya lagi.
Isu kenaikan harga akan dibincangkan dalam perhimpunan agung tahunan Presma Rabu depan.
Beliau memberitahu, Presma juga telah menulis surat kepada Menteri Perdagangan Dalam Negeri dan Hal Ehwal Pengguna, Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi untuk mendapatkan temu janji dan mendapatkan nasihat daripada kementerian itu.
Dilaporkan bulan lepas beberapa syarikat, termasuk Nestlé (Malaysia) Bhd dan Fraser & Neave Holdings Bhd telah menaikkan harga runcit produk tertentu ketika ekonomi kembali rancak ekoran sekatan akibat Covid-19.
Dalam pada itu, Persatuan Pemilik Restoran India Malaysia (Primas) yang mewakili 1,500 ahli percaya ada antara ahlinya telah menaikkan harga makanan dan minuman yang dijual di premis mereka.
“Harga bahan dan barangan yang kami beli meningkat 50 hingga 100 peratus,” kata Naib Presiden Primas, C Krishnan.
